Native Youth Pomo Dance Group Performance Information
Hello Fellow Natives and Community Members,
| My
name is Joe Salinas, I am a staff member in the Healthy
Traditions Department of Sonoma County Indian Health
Project in Santa Rosa. I was born and raised in Santa
Rosa, California. My family and I are Pomo from Stewarts
Point Rancheria (Kashia). I have been a youth football,
basketball, and baseball Coach for the last three
years. Through lifestyle coaching, counseling and
support I will work with the Native Youth to identify
their culture, heritage, health and wellness also
teaching values & morals to the children through
native traditions. |
|
Currently
we have gathered our urban native youth together from
surrounding Pomo tribes to form our Native Youth Pomo
Dance group. Now that the group has been together for
a while we are open to opportunities to share and educate
audiences about our culture and traditions. We have about
fifteen male and fifteen female youth dancers in our group
totaling thirty youth, altogether. If you, someone, an
organization you are part of, or if you know of an organization
that may be interested in a presentation please contact
me, so I may check our schedule for a performance opportunity.
Our Youth are always looking for an chance to share and
be proud of the knowledge they have learned about our
Pomo culture. We do not dance for money, but we do ask
for a transportation or travel stipend, food for the group,
and a possible donation to help the group with any future
materials for regalia items. Thank you in advance for
your time and consideration of our Youth and our Culture.
Hopefully, we will be given an opportunity to perform
for you and share our culture, and be able to help educate
all audiences interested in our Native Traditions.
This
is the youth group website. If you have time please check
it out. There are also orange flicker buttons on side
along with buttons on the menu bar. All you have
to do is double click on website below and it will take
you right there. Thank you for all your support, www.scihpnativeyouth.net
